When dogs go to heaven, They don't need wings because God knows that dogs love running best. He gives them fields. Fields and fields and fields. When a dog first arrives in heaven, he just runs. Dog heaven has clear, wide lakes filled with geese that honk and flap and tease. The dogs love this. They run beside the water and bark and bark and God watches them from behind a tree and smiles.
There are children. Of course. Angel children. God knows that dogs love children more than anything else in the world, so he fills Dog Heaven with plenty of them. There are children on bikes and children on sleds. There are children throwing red rubber balls and children pulling kites through the clouds. The dogs are there, and the children love them dearly.
Dogs in Dog Heaven have almost always belonged to somebody on Earth and, of course, the dogs remember this. Heaven is full of memories. So sometimes an angel will walk a dog back to Earth for a little visit and quietly, invisibly, the dog will sniff about his old backyard, will investigate the cat next door, will follow the child to school, will sit on the front porch and wait for the mail. When he is satisfied that all is well, the dog will return to Heaven with the angel. It is where dogs belong, near God who made them.
Dogs in Dog Heaven may stay as long as they like and this can mean forever. They will be there when old friends show up. They will be there at the door. Angel dogs.*

Cammie left us today. Her head was on my knee, and Robert and I were both petting her and telling her what a good dog she was.
Goodbye, CamCam, Miss Baby, Cambot, Baby Bop. You came for a temporary stay that lasted 10 years. I know your heaven will have lots of children to play with and lots of sofas to lay on. And you won't be hurting any more.
Steal all Sasha's toys from her like you used to, and run and play again, Miss Baby. You never asked for very much, and you were always a Good Dog. We'll miss you, big girl. We'll see you at the Bridge.
Cammie, ARPH #337, 1991 - July 12, 2006.

Janice, I'm so sorry about Cammie. I know how hard the day was for you and Robert. Cry your heart out and remember the good times. You'll laugh through those tears and the memories will bring more of both. I'm thinking of you and sending lots of hugs. Cammie was a beautiful dog and I know you'll love her always.

It's so terribly sad to say goodbye to our pets. I'm sorry. Goodness, when I think about all the knit bloggers who have lost pets this year it fills me up with sadness. I wonder if all those pets get together in heaven and talk about us as owners and our crazy fiber habits. Cammie was as lucky as you were for sharing her life with you. I hope the good memories flow freely.

Oh, Janice, I'm so sorry. You know I can empathize . . . and we're not far from facing another one of those days ourselves. But even though we all know that this is a part of the process of having animals who become our friends, it doesn't make it any easier, does it? Hugs!

We are so sorry for your loss. After Cammie runs with Sasha awhile, she can play with Penny. Dogs are the very best friends.
Love to you and Robert

I'm so, so sorry. Your post is a lovely tribute and it had me in tears. I'm running the Doggy Old Folks home these days (2 of my dogs getting up there) and your post really hit me where it hurts.

I think the dogs and cats get along up there, too. Our Myrtle went way too soon - it has been a hard year for knitbloggy pets. I like Jenifleur's idea a lot. :)
I'm so sorry about Cammie. I'm going to go hug my Jamie now, too.

Hi Janice,
I'm doing the Amazing lace Pit Stop, and your blog is next on my list. In case you haven't read about it yet, we have come to a Pit Stop in the race and are supposed to go to our own name on the side bar and then visit the next 5 blogs on the list. First of all, I am so sorry about Cammie. Please accept my sincere sympathy. Secondly, your lace is beautiful! And especially your Oregon shawl - what a beautiful color!
Good luck on the next Challenge!

I'm so sorry. I hope that dog heaven has fresh fleeces for them to roll in to, since I think we all hope that there are no septic tank drainage fields.
