Dadgum...

If I'd know about these, or these, before 10:00 on Halloween evening, I'd've stayed home and passed out candy tonight.

Maybe next year...

Sheepwreck has tagged me with “8 Very Random Things.”Okay, this is how it works.  Once you are tagged, you must:

A) Link to the person who tagged you.

B) Post the rules before your list.

C) List 8 random things about yourself.

D) At the end of the post you must tag and link to 8 other people.

E) Visit their blogs  and leave a comment letting them know they’ve are it.

Lessee:  we've been over ground like this in the past, but maybe I can find a few more random things.

  1. I want a great wheel/walking wheel like nobody's business.  I don't know why. I just do.
  2. I frequently spin yarn without having any idea what I'm going to do with it.  Sometimes it sits in the closet for years.  I also knit things just because I want to knit them, not because I want to wear them.  I have a skewed sense of utility in fiber arts.
  3. I want an old Schwinn (or similar vintage) bicycle with fenders and a basket.  A girl's bike frame too, because I'm starting to get too stiff to reliably swing a leg over the other kind of frame.  I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that I won't be setting any bicycle records any time soon.
  4. Learning how to become old is the second hardest thing I've ever done.  (The hardest was recovering from knee surgery.)  I know I'm not THAT old, but I'm certainly not young anymore.   Alas.
  5. When I was in high school, I used to pretend that specific stars would relay my kisses from me to someone I was thinking about.  I'd blow a kiss in the direction of the star and imagine it bouncing off at the speed of love and zooming back to land on the unsuspecting target.  In the summer, I used Vega; in the winter, Capella.
  6. I used to walk alone in the woods and sing songs from Tolkien's books.
  7. Wind in the pine trees sounds like the ocean.  Wind in deciduous trees sounds like rain.  I like both sounds.

I, however, am not a tagger, so anyone who wants may tag themselves.

I'll be heading out to SAFF tomorrow.  I'm finishing up my SAFF sweater, made of 100% handspun yarn.  It looks like I might actually need it up that.  Cool weather blew in yesterday.  See y'all there.

Test your mechanical aptitude

Ford Diesel Training Society Mechanical Aptitude Test

I passed, though not by much.  It didn't help that I missed one question because I didn't read the answers closely (duh) and another because I occasionally get clockwise and counterclockwise mixed up.

Donate rice, train your vocabulary

Free Rice for the hungry through vocabulary training.

It's an odd sort of tie-in.  The vocabulary words are pretty challenging*, and it's fun to see the rice accumulate in the bowl.  But how much is 2000 grains of rice, really??

*most vocabulary quizzes online are laughably easy

Which Discworld Character Are YOU?

Which Discworld Character are you like (with pics)
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Esmerelda (Granny) Weatherwax

You are Granny Weatherwax! The most powerful witch on the Disc! You often use headology rather than actual spells, and are a very good witch, despite the fact that you sometimes wish you were a bad one. You play a mean game of Cripple Mr. Onion, and have a very powerful stare. By the way, you should really get that broom fixed.

Pushing Daisies

Have y'all seen Pushing Daisies?

Knitwithpushingdaisies_3

It's a neat, quirky little show.  And it had knitting content, at least occasionally.
