For the Falling Man

I see you again and again
tumbling out of the sky,

At first I thought you were debris
from the explosion, maybe gray plaster wall
or fuselage but then I realized
that people were leaping.
I know who you are, I know
there's more to you than just this image
on the news, this ragdoll plummeting—
I know you were someone's lover, husband,
daddy. Last night you read stories
to your children, tucked them in, then curled into sleep
next to your wife. Perhaps there was small
sleepy talk of the future. Then,
before your morning coffee had cooled
you'd come to this; a choice between fire
or falling.
How feeble these words, billowing
in this aftermath, how ineffectual
this utterance of sorrow. We can see plainly
it's hopeless, even as the words trail from our mouths
—but we can't help ourselves—how I wish
we could trade them for something
that could really have caught you.

A wonderful birthday

I had a wonderful birthday, thankyouverymuch!  Dear Robert gave up the opportunity to play golf to spend the day with me.  If that's not love, I don't know what is! 

I used the birthday freebie coupons for a burrito from Moe's, and a free drink from Caribou Coffee.  Then we did a little shopping (I love REI). Then we wandered down to Decatur.

Decatur is WAY off our normal track.  It's a really nice place, but it's a long was from where we are outin the wilds of Gwinnett Co.  So going to Decatur is a treat!  We wandered around and did some window-shopping, then we went to The Brick Store for beer and supper.  We were still full from the burritos earlier in the day, so we ate pita and hummus and a bit of interesting cheese.  I had a good Canadian oatmeal stout.  I didn't care what we ate, I just wanted a good beer.

Then we went to the grand opening of Sheepish (no website yet that I know of, but there's a group for it on Ravelry.  Sheepish is in Nease's Needlework's old spot, just off the square.  I saw folks I knew, had a fun time chatting, and came home with another knitting needle (I don't know WHERE my size 3 circs are!) and some Mountain Colors roving.  (Pictures later).

Greatest American Dog is dead to me now

I have HAD it with these moronic tasks and clueless judges.  I thought Victoria Stillwell had some sense, but apparently that's just an artifact of clever editing on her show. 

And comparing a high energy border collie to a Maltese that has so little independence that he can't be away from his owner for 5 bloody minutes???  Give me an effing break.  And they called GALAXY robotic???  Andrew can't make a move if Laurie isn't there.  Grrr.

That show is messed up.  I'll watch next week to see who wins, but frankly, I don't give a damn anymore.
